Making History
For the first time in the school’s history, Nazareth High School won the Lone Star Cup in the 1-A division. The Swiftettes were basketball state champions, and cross country state runners-up. The swifts were regional finalists in basketball. The school had the most match wins at the state tennis meet and were academic state UIL champions.
Nazareth ISD had a total of seventy-six points. In second place, Gail Borden County had sixty-six points, and Happy had fifty-six points in third place.
Congratulations to all athletes and academic competitors on a fantastic school year!
Nazareth at the Birth of Basketball
While Springfield, Massachusetts is the birth place of basketball, it is also the home of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The Hall holds many exhibits of facts, teams and stories from various places.
One of these exhibits features the Nazareth Swiftettes. It includes a brief overview of the history of the program and names a few Swiftettes for playing at the college level.
While the facts need to be updated, it is nice to know that the Swiftettes’ hard work is acknowledged even outside of Texas.
Weekend of Memories
This weekend, Nazareth hosted three different reunions, the Acker reunion, the Schacher reunion and the Class of 1982.
The descendants of Val and Margaret Acker met at the Legion Hall for the first time since 1989. Around one hundred family members were able to attend. The reunion included a mass at Holy Family Parish for all living and deceased family members of Val and Margaret Acker.
The Schachers met at Benny and Brenda’s house on July 1-2. Over three hundred people attended. The reunion was held to commemorate one hundred years at the Schacher homestead. On Saturday evening, Father Ken held a special mass for the Schachers in attendance.
The Class of 1982 had their 35 year reunion held on Friday and Saturday. They met at Joe Kleman’s house and later had a meal at El Camino.
TEEN ACTS RETREAT #21
Nine Nazareth teenagers attended the Teen ACTS retreat this past weekend in Amarillo, Texas. There were a total of 25 retreatants. The teens from Nazareth included Cambrie Heiman, Blakely Gerber, Jake Gerber, Brady Robb, Jacob Moroney, Amy Schilderink,Briana Huseman, Hallie Kleman, and Tate Schulte.
There were also eleven people from Nazareth who served as team members for this retreat. These members included Abby Schmucker, April Schmucker, Laci Backus, Garrison Kleman, Landon Robb, Garrett Annen, Eric Heitschmidt, Tommy King, Tausha Schacher, J.C. Pohlmeier, and, Deacon Bob, who willingly stepped in at the last minute to help Monsignor Waldow.
The retreat started on Thursday evening, June 29, when the retreatants arrived at the Bishop Defalco Retreat Center. It lasted through Sunday morning, July 2, and ended with a closing mass at Our Lady of Vietnam church in Amarillo. Throughout the weekend, everyone experienced various ways that would strengthen their relationships with Christ.

King’s Manor Barbeque and Auction
The King’s Manor barbeque and auction will be held on July 15 starting at 6:30. The fundraiser will be at the Hereford ISD building at 601 N. 25 Mile Avenue, Hereford Texas.
The tickets are $35 a person and include the meal, auction and concert. Call King’s Manor at 806-364-0661 for more information or to reserve seating.
The music for the evening will feature Larry Gatlin, who will sing All the Gold in California, Broken Lady and other gospel favorites.
The auction includes many items, but will feature two trips. The first is a helicopter hog hunt for two with Cedar Ridge Aviation. It includes a two hour flight, firearm, ammo, a night at the lodge, steak dinner and ranchers breakfast. The second is a road trip for four to the Magnolia Markets. It includes a behind the scenes tour of Chip and Joanna Gains’ Magnolia Markets at the Silos, two nights at a country bed and breakfast and a gas/meal card.
All proceeds from this event go to the Benevolent Fund at King’s Manor and are used to the benefit of residents who may have exhausted their resources, so they may continue to have a home at King’s Manor.
