QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Happiness is not by chance, but by choice.”

Nazareth ISD Prom

Nazareth students had the chance to dress up and enjoy themselves this weekend at the prom on Saturday. The event was organized by the junior class and their sponsors and took place outdoors at the Yellow Rose Inn, which was a gamble with the weather. Fortunately, the conditions were perfect that evening. The couples lined up their vehicles in front of the inn before getting out for pictures and walking into the venue. After they were introduced, guests, sponsors, and staff were seated in the backyard area of the inn and served either a steak or chicken dinner that was served by the freshman class. Nearing the end of the meal, seniors Maggie Nelson, Tye Schulte, Grace Huseman, and Ryan Heitschmidt presented the class history, in which they explained the highlights of their years as students at Nazareth ISD. Attendees then went out to the courtyard behind the venue, where a DJ was set up and playing music. For around two hours, prom-goers danced to various two-step, club, and line dances, ending a fun and exciting night for students.

Agronomy Team Qualifies For Nationals

The Nazareth FFA agronomy team, clad in their Hawaiian shirts, was one of the smallest teams to compete in the state contest at Texas Tech University on Saturday. The contest took four and a half hours, in which the participants had to identify certain insects, crops, and seeds. The team was ecstatic to discover that they had won the entire contest and qualified for the national contest in October 2021! Individually, senior Grady McAlister (center) was the high point individual, junior Dayson Schacher (right) placed second, and freshman Max Snead (right) placed 16th. Congratulations to the agronomy team for their success!

Regional Tennis Meet

Following a successful district meet, Nazareth tennis players traveled to Levelland on Monday for the first day of the regional tennis meet. Two pairs, Luke Betzen and Trent Gerber for boys doubles and Carson Heiman and Harley Gerber advanced to the championship the following morning. In addition, Chance Hochstein and Tye Schulte in the boys doubles and Luke Schulte and Iris Schilderink mixed doubles played for third and a possible playback. Bliss Betzen, Tatum Peterson, and Lanna Quigley also played great matches but came up short from advancing. The following day, eight of the players came back to play in day two. Two of the teams, Luke Betzen and Trent Gerber in boys doubles and Carson Heiman and Harley Gerber advanced to state! Tye Schulte, Chance Hochstein, Luke Schulte, and Iris Schilderink both earned 3rd place after some competitive matches. Congratulations to all those who competed and good luck to the state qualifiers!
