Teens Attend Steubenville Retreat

On Thursday July 20, thirty-five high schoolers and eleven adults left Nazareth to travel the almost nine hour drive to Springfield Missouri for the 2017 Steubenville conference. Held at Missouri State University, the conference lasted from July 21-23.

Thursday was spent visiting with each other on the long bus ride and enjoying the scenery. On Friday, the group visited Fantastic Caverns and rode trailers inside the cave. That night was the first night of the conference. The next day and Sunday morning was spent at the conference listening to speakers, praying, singing, attending mass and spending time in adoration.

On Saturday, there was morning mass for Saint Mary Magdalene and a boy’s and girl’s session talk. After lunch, the group listened to more speakers and prepared for adoration. Adoration began after dinner and was very powerful for many of the teens. There was mass and a session about continuing the faith on Sunday. The weekend was a wonderful experience for everyone who attended.

On behalf of the youth group and those who attended, I would like to thank the community for their support and prayers.

Community Meal

The Wednesday meal takes place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month and starts at noon. It is sponsored by the Senior Citizens and is held at the Senior Citizens building in Nazareth Texas. For each meal, someone volunteers to serve as chairman. This person is in charge of getting everything organized for the particular week. So far, the chairman for each week has been a member of the Senior Citizens.

Anyone can attend the Wednesday meals. However, visitors must bring a dish for all of the guests or pay $7 to eat. The next Wednesday meal will be held on July 26.

Community Announcements

Canned Food Drive

Starting July 22, the We Care Food Pantry will be having a canned food drive. The food drive will go on for three weeks, July 22, July 29 and August 2. Throughout these weeks, we ask for canned foods and also peanut butter jars. There will be boxes in the back of church to place the items in. After the three weeks are over, the cans and jars will be brought to the food pantry to be distributed there. Thanks in advance!

CCD signup

For all parents interested in registering their children for CCD classes, there will be signups in the back of church for the next two weekends. For more information, contact Gladys Fortenberry.

Need More of German Fest?

There are leftover sausage and t-shirts for sale from German Fest. Sausage is $12 per two pound bag and shirts are $20. Contact any hall committee member to order!

Server Appreciation

Saturday August 5 the servers at Holy Family Parish will travel to the Canyon Aqua Park after the 5:30 evening mass. Servers from grades 4-12 are encouraged to attend. Hamburgers served by Parish Council members at 6:30 p.m. We will leave at 7 p.m. for The CAP. We have the park exclusively from 8 – 10 p.m. If you are able to drive, please let a Parish Council member know.

Theology of the Body Adult Training

There will be theology of the body training for parents and teachers at St. Hyacinths church in Amarillo on August 26. The deadline to register is August 2. Contact Gladys to sign up.

School Registration

Registration for upcoming junior high and high school students has been moved to August 10. A schedule for registration times will be announced soon.

14th Annual Nazareth Buyers Club Supper

The Nazareth Buyers Club supper will be August 12, 2017 at the Nazareth Community Hall. There will be a reverse drawing raffle, a $25,000 credit giveaway, a Texas Hold ‘em Tournament and Entertainment by Mason Kleman and Carl Huseman. Tickets are $150 and admit 2 people for a catered steak supper. Meal is at 5:30 p.m. the drawing begins at 6 p.m. and the winning ticket will be drawn around 11 p.m.

Castro County Fair Booths

If you are interested in a booth at the Castro County Fair / Harvest Days on Saturday, September 9th, 2017 in Dimmitt, TX, please contact Donna at 647-2243 or dsr60@windstream.net.  Remember it is first come, first served, and booths inside the Expo go fast.  Booths range from $30 to $45 depending on where they are, and if you need electricity.

7th Grade Parent Meeting

All 7th graders who are interested in playing in the band and their parents please come to the band hall at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27. If you are unable to attend, but would like to be in band please email angela.fulkerson@nazarethisd.net or call (806) 344-8304.
