May 25, 2016 ~ Year 7, No. 129

2nd Annual Olen Schulte Memorial Roping, Saturday, May 21, brought together area-wide friends to celebrate the life of a man known to love his life-style of family, farming, riding and roping, and especially mentoring young people interested in ranching life. The well-attended event included the ever-popular, somewhat daring, and always fun-to-watch Wild Cow Milking Contest.

Winners were: Champion Header: Chad Fangman of Vega; Champion Heeler: Steve Purcella of Hereford; Wild Cow Milking: the team of Chance Schilling, Sage Black, and Kyle Birkenfeld. Truly outstanding belt-buckles were awarded the winners.

Families enjoyed the fun, concession stand, and music in the evening of Ace of Spades band with Mason Kleman and Carl Huseman. Organizers and family thank all the sponsors of the event.

The 2016 Seniors and their parents, along with the faculty, were honored at this year’s Baccalaureate service held May 21st at Holy Family Church, Nazareth. Nineteen Seniors in their graduation robes processed into church with symbolic items of their successful participation in academic, organizational, and extra-curricular activities throughout the year. They were accompanied by the 8th grade class who celebrated their promotion into High School. Senior Morgan Nelson, and Junior Lexie Ethridge, challenged their school-mates to let their goals in future studies or careers include thankfulness for the support received from faith, families, and the Nazareth community, especially their past teachers and mentors. Fr. Ken Keller highlighted the symbolic learning of the local playa experience in implementing the gospel text of “building your house on Rock”

FFA Celebrates Student Honorees

On Thursday May 19th, the Nazareth Community Hall saw a sea of excited blue-coated FFA youth recognized for this year’s successes in Agriculture. With 172 parents, NISD faculty, and community representatives, these 63 FFA students were praised for their dedicated work under the guidance of Austin Heck, Ag-teacher.

And what a success as noted in the report that around $37,000 in scholarship funds had been awarded to some of the students from 5th grade up through Seniors. A full report of the awards will appear in later editions of Swift Kicks. Mr. Heck thanked all for their support.
