Students had a great showing at both of the local stock shows last week. On Wednesday night, a big part of the community gathered at the Castro County Expo Building to participate in or watch the Nazareth Livestock Show. There were 130 entries. Adam Peña, a 2011 graduate of Nazareth High School and Baylor University (2015), attended the 16th Annual Latin Grammy Awards ceremony held at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, NV, back on Nov. 19th.  Peña was invited as a Producer and Composer on the album “Y/O” recorded by the Venezuelan rock band, Charliepapa, which received a nomination for Best Rock Album.  Adam originally wrote the song “Abismo” for his father’s band, Los Arcos Hermanos Peña, but later gave it to Charliepapa.  “My Dad told me it would be a while before they would record the song, and Charliepapa expressed a lot of interest in it.  My uncles Jerry and Fide, advised me to give it to Johnathan and the guys at Charliepapa, and they were right,” Peña said.  Thought the album did not win a Grammy, Adam had an amazing experience, and hopes this will not be his last nomination—he is currently finishing work on a debut album by the group, Infinito, another act out of Dimmitt, TX.  Though he loves working on music, Adam’s day job is working for Goldman Sachs, based in New York City.  Congratulations Adam, and to your parents, Gilbert & Joann Peña!

Friday’s games against the Lazbuddie marked the end of the first part of district play for the basketball teams. Both teams are undefeated in district at this point, and hope to remain the same throughout the second half.

Both the Swifts and Swiftettes have defeated the teams from Kress, Amherst, Springlake-Earth, Hart, and Lazbuddie. The next five games will be against these same teams in opposite locations.

Come out and support the basketball teams on grandparents night in their upcoming home game against Amherst on Friday.
