Be sure to welcome Julie McLain as our new Postal Clerk when you see her at the Nazareth Post Office.  Julie lives in Springlake, TX, so not too far of a drive each day to our village.  She has worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 11 years, logging time at facilities in Hart, Dimmitt, Amarillo, and Bovina.  Julie is the mother of 3 boys, the youngest a senior at Springlake-Earth H.S., and she used to live out on the highway near Donald Wright’s house (on FM 2567)…so she knows Nazareans from those times.

Norbert A. Hoelting

Norbert August “Nub” Hoelting, living in rural Olpe, Kansas, died at his home on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the age of 96.  Norbert was born in Nazareth, Texas on May 17, 1918, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Schroer) Hoelting. He married Mary Elizabeth Birkenfeld at Nazareth, Texas on October 17, 1939. She died January 16, 2011.

Norbert and Mary lived in the Nazareth community during their early years of marriage, farming near the Center Plains area and bringing three children into the world (Elsie, Floyd, and Henry).  In 1946, the young family (Mary was pregnant with Leona at the time) left Nazareth and moved to Olpe, Kansas, establishing an excellent farm there and raising an amazing family.  Their home east of Olpe provided a special place for Nazareth relatives to visit during the past 6 decades.  Both Norbert and Mary left brothers, sisters, and cousins back in Nazareth, so there has always been a well-worn trail connecting Nazareth and Olpe, KS!

Surviving family members of Norbert include his six daughters, Elsie Hoelting, Boulder, Colorado, Leona Hoelting, Chicago, Illinois, Viola Hoelting, Olpe, Joyce (Dick) Ratcliff, Salina, Kansas, Donna (Gary) Herron, Chanute, Kansas, and Mary Beth (Russ) Bonitatibus, Emporia; five sons, Floyd (JoEllen) Hoelting, Austin, Texas, Henry (Marsha) Hoelting, Olpe, Daryl (Kim) Hoelting, Salina, Galen Hoelting , Olpe, and Neal (Vicki) Hoelting, Wichita, Kansas; twenty-five grandchildren; and thirty-four great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his five brothers and three sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, with Father John Cordes, Celebrant. Inurnment was conducted in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Olpe.  Memorials have been established with the church or Hand In Hand Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
