Nazareth Wins District UIL

Nazareth High School added more trophies to their collection after winning district UIL with 490.66 points. Elementary and junior high also won their UIL district meets. UIL participants traveled to Springlake-Earth on March 24 to compete in their academic events. The students were introduced to a new district this year which consisted of Amherst, Lazbuddie, Kress, and Springlake-Earth. The top three of each event advances to Regional. Thirty two Nazareth participants will compete at Regional UIL on April 24.

MAY 30, 1957 – APRIL 4, 2015

          Olen G. Schulte, 57, of Nazareth, Texas passed Saturday, April 4, 2015 in Nazareth. Olen was born on May 30, 1957 to Ray and Martha Schulte. He was one of twelve children. He married Barbara West of Groom on May 24, 1986 and together they had three children. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed rodeos and stock shows and helping family and friends with their show animals. He loved making people laugh with his stories and quick wit.
Olen is survived by his loving wife, Barbara of Nazareth, 2 daughters, Keli Schulte of Lubbock and Macee Huseman and husband Evan of Nazareth, 1 son, Landon Schulte of Nazareth, brothers, Marvin Schulte and wife Darlene, Kenny Schulte and wife Cince, Clyde Schulte and wife Lisa and Bob Schulte and wife Beverly all of Nazareth, sisters, Bernita Hoelting and husband Bill, Vera Ramaekers and husband Rex all of Nazareth and Sheryl Schulte of Dimmitt, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Olen is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Martha Schulte, 3 brothers, Howard Schulte, Wayne Schulte and Leon Schulte and 1 sister, Raelene Hoelting.
Memorials may be made to the Nazareth Cemetery Fund, PO Box 100, Nazareth, TX or to a favorite charity. Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at this funeral on Tuesday, April 7th, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth with burial following.

Nazareth Historian Christena Stephens

                  Christena Stephens, our Community Intern and now Apprentice for all things Historically Nazareth, is giving a talk at the West Texas Historical Association 92nd Annual Meeting Amarillo College, Amarillo, Texas Friday, April 10, 2015, from 8:30 am to 9:45 am entitled: “How Mortality Records Can Provide a Historical Picture of a German Community”.  Anyone may attend this talk.  She has been diligently preparing the new Book for Holy Family Cemetery and recently sent this report of some of the activities she’s involved in with our Nazareth History: read and archived 1,990 pages of materials, collected 421 death certificates, restored 214 photographs, took and contributed 161 photos, and so far our Nazareth History archive has accumulated 534 pictures because of her efforts.
