Help Nazareth ISD Compete for a grant of up to $25,000
America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, gives rural public school districts the opportunity to compete for a grant of up to $25,000 to help fund science and math programs. Eligible farmers can nominate local public school districts for a grant. Please ask all of the local farmers you know to nominate our school today!
For the fourth consecutive year, America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education will award $2.3 million to enhance math and science education in rural communities in 2015. Grant applications will be judged based on the merit of the application, need and community support. Community support is affected by the number of farmers we have nominate our school district and this can strengthen our application.
If Nazareth ISD wins, we plan on using our grant money to purchase laptop computers for our one-to-one initiative. But first, we have to be nominated. The deadline for farmer nominations is April 1, 2015. So start spreading the word about this important opportunity today!

Church Adds New Lay Leaders
In December, Holy Family Church elected four new members to the 12 member Parish Council — Lesly Annen, Leroy Schulte, Tisha Gerber, and Dwight Acker. On Monday, January 12th, the Council subsequently meet and elected their new officers. Chairman for this coming year will be Harold Venhaus, the Vice-Chairman will be Scott Huseman, secretary is Crystal Backus, and the Council Advisor is last year’s chairman, Brian Ramaekers.
Members who finished their terms on the board were offered appreciation for their three years of service: Darrin Heiman, Diane Heitschmidt, Twila Williams, and Gregg Gerber (the 2013 chairman).
The council is the advisory group to the Pastor, Fr. Ken Keller, helping to guide the parish in fulfilling their goal, which is summarized in the parish “mission statement” — “We, the People of God of Holy Family Parish in Nazareth, Texas, have dedicated ourselves to strengthening faith, families, and this farming community since 1902, and will continue to do so by sharing Gospel values of: Christian commitment to grow in faith, sacrament-centered liturgy and prayerful worship in our parish, loving service and caring outreach to all people of the community.”

SUNDAY, FEB 1st, 4:00 P.M. IN LEGION HALL. Donation of $100 per person includes steak Dinner and drinks for two, along with silent auction and a Texas Hold’em Tournament. Contact any Fire Dept. Member for tickets. Payout $1,000 after 1st, 2nd, 3rd quarters; $1,200 Final payout.
2) POST OFFICE RETAIL HAS NEW HOURS: Mon-Fri: 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 pm but closed for lunch from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Boxes will be serviced at noon during the week and at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
3) SPECIAL CITY MEETING was held on Monday, Jan. 26, 5:30 p.m., in City Hall, to consider annexation of land west of Intersection Sales and Service.
4) The Burn Ban is off until further notice – snow doesn’t burn
5) Book Sale at Rhoads Memorial Library in Dimmitt begins at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, and will continue through Saturday, Jan. 31. Hardback books and paperbacks will be available.

2015 Trustee Election Information
On February 11, 2015, the Nazareth ISD BOE will order an election for Saturday, May 9, 2015 to elect two trustees. The two positions are currently held by Keith Hoelting and Joe Kleman. Citizens living within the district may file for a place on the ballot at Nazareth ISD Administration Office beginning on January 28, 2015 through February 27, 2015.
Applications for ballot by mail may be received from March 10 through April 30 and shall be mailed to:

Early voting by personal appearance will be conducted each weekday at Nazareth ISD Administration Office at 101 S. 1st Street between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. beginning on April 27, 2015 and ending May 5, 2015.
Nazareth ISD will conduct a joint election with the City of Nazareth. The polling place, Nazareth Senior Citizens at 103 N 2nd Street, will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on May 9, 2015.
