Christmas Outreach to Senior Citizens Noted

Participants in the Christmas Meal hosted by the Castro County Catholic Communities.

More than two hundred traditional Christmas meals, along with festively wrapped gifts, were distributed Tuesday, December 16th, to elders and shut-ins within Castro County.  The Catholic Communities of Dimmitt, Hart, and Nazareth came together for their seventh year of providing this meal and the gift boxes, some hand delivered to shut-ins and others enjoyed at the cafeteria of the Church of Mary’s Immaculate Conception in Dimmitt.  Volunteer cooks from Dimmitt and Nazareth brought the meal together, consisting of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, and dessert. The Sheriff’s dept of the county delivered the meals to the Hart Community, while volunteers with the Nazareth Meals-on-Wheels took meals in that community. Nearly two hundred gift boxes were prepared by volunteers from Holy Family Church in Nazareth while fifty were prepared at St. John’s Church in Hart. The elders happily enjoyed getting these early Christmas gifts and delicious traditional meals made from turkeys donated by the Peoples Bank of Nazareth and the We Care Food Bank.  Decorations in the dining hall were provided by volunteers at the Dimmitt church.  Thanks go out to all who helped in this outreach, while caring prayers went with each delivery to all the Senior Citizens – have a blessed Christmas!

NISD Bands Make Merry

The Nazareth Gym rang out Tuesday evening with holiday music as three of the school bands displayed their musical talents for a large audience of parents and friends.  Playing Christmas music from traditional carols to more modern pop renditions, the Bands — High School, Junior High, and 5th Grade – showed their growth in mastering both the instruments played and the musical sound much appreciated in band work.  The Band Director and Fine Arts teacher, Mr. Lanny Frederiksen, complimented the musicians and pointed out their advancing standings in competitions with other area schools.  After the performance, band parents offered the crowd holiday refreshments.  The Nazareth community and school parents offered their congratulations to band members and director.
